The Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc. (AAHGS) - Willie Lee Gay H-Town Chapter in partnership with the Freedmen’s Town Museums and Holocaust Museum Houston invites you to celebrate Black History Month as we explore the practice of formerly enslaved persons writing letters to the Freedmen’s Bureau and placing ads in newspapers hoping to reconnect with family after emancipation.


The three-session workshop offers research tips, a documentary viewing, and discussions focused on African-American family research. The event is FREE and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
Check-in on the day of the event begins at 9:00 a.m. Light refreshments from 9-9:30 a.m.
